Bellarine Tea Gardens, Point HenryLast month [January] I started a series of blogs on my Geelong & District site feature articles from the Geelong Advertiser in 1841 – that’s 175 years ago.  If the articles are about places that might interest a wider audience then I’ll post a link here.

This particular blog covered a number of harbours around Victoria and southern New South Wales.  It’s definitely worth reading!

Some of my library for sale

Library ShelvesSometimes our libraries end up getting just too large – especially if you need to move house and downsize.

There are so many books but I’ve culled a little over 400 that are now available for purchase.  Prices are less than, and often considerably less than, second hand online prices.

You can download the current list and decide if there are any that you want to move to your library!

Guidelines:

  • If someone requests and pays for any items, they are no longer available for others – first in, best dressed.
  • Items can be collected from me on the Bellarine Peninsula [in Victoria] or posted – obviously I will need to check the weight and destination to confirm postage costs which will be added to the price of the book(s).
  • Items must be paid for before they can be posted or collected – direct Internet banking is the preferred option – other options charge too much which considerably reduces the amount I receive.
  • If you wish I can provide contacts of others who have purchased some of my books – they will vouch for me!

If you wish to get in touch and/or purchase any books, you can CONTACT ME HERE.

In case you haven’t worked it out yet, the majority of my books are for history, genealogy, and research.

Dose up on TROVE now!

Digitised Newspapers, TROVE

TROVE LogoFor all of those who just love TROVE and the Digitised Newspapers, you might want to prepare for an enforced abstinence!

At 5.00 pm on Monday 22nd February 2016, TROVE will be closed down.

BUT before you panic, it will reappear with the much anticipated new version – Trove 7 – on 25 February 2016.

I know many of us blame TROVE for missed sleep, missed housework, and a myriad of other “missed” things, but you may need to soak up even more TROVE before it’s offline for a couple of days.

Then make the most of those couple of days to catch up on all the things you’ll miss from the 25th February when you start playing with and enjoying Trove 7!

Did your ancestor drive for Cobb & Co?

Great Blog with Cobb & Co employees – worth following!

Stories of extraordinary Australians

Lots of Australians ask me about relatives of theirs who drove for Cobb & Co or who they think owned competitor firms in 19th century Australia. Check out the list to see if your relative is there. If there is a Cobb & Co driver missing, let me know!

In the past years dozens of families have written to provide updates to the list below. It has been further enlarged to over 940 through a painstaking review of old newspaper records.
